Meet the members, Lenny Börjesson

My name is Lenny Börjesson and I am 54 years old. I work at Varberg’s energy arena where Varberg’s bois FC plays in the Allsvenskan, which is the highest league in Sweden. I live in a villa just outside Varberg with my partner Emma, who also works at the arena, and our cat Tarzan.
Why did you join the industry?
I grew up on a farm so I have always been interested in machines and plant production. I have worked as a groundsman for about 25 years. The reason why I have worked for so long in this profession is because I am really driven by working with the greens to give the associations the best conditions for their training and matches.

Best career achievement?
Some great moments in my career have been when big teams have had their training camps at the arena, for example the Swedish national team, Manchester City, Lazio, Inter, Portugal’s national team etc. Another great moment in my career was when I got to work during the Europa League final at Friends arena, Stockholm.

What inspiring words would you say to young greenkeepers?
To all the younger greenkeepers I would like to say, dare to ask, dare to try and never give up because this profession is the best you can have. Lots of freedom under your own responsibility.

What’s your dream job?
My dream job would be to work in a larger arena somewhere in Europe, like Anfield road, my favorite team’s home arena. Likes to develop in the profession, never thinks you will be fully trained as a groundsman as long as you like challenges.
